An electric skateboard’s “fuel” is its battery. The speed and power of your skate depends primarily on the electric motor (power in watts, and voltage in volts), but a battery of quality influences the performance of your skate.
The capacity of your battery (in Ampere / Hours: “A / H”) affects autonomy. The more the capacity, the greater the autonomy of your skate.
After several years of research, Evo-Skate has chosen 2 types of battery:
Batteries SLA (Sealed Lead Acid), better known in France as the battery “Gel / Lead.” The technology for these batteries is the same as those used in car batteries and scooters, but adapted for the use with constant current for an extended duration and deep discharge.
The advantage of these batteries is their low cost.
he disadvantages compared to lithium batteries are:
- Low power compared to the weight. Battery 36V – 12 A / H weighs 14.5kg.
- Shorter life, but sufficient for most uses: approximately 150 cycles before loss of autonomy and more than 100 cycles with a correct range (of course depends on the type of use).
- Low performance: a SLA battery with the same characteristics as a lithium battery will be less effectivet.
Evo-Skate offers the following batteries :
SLA 7 : 36V SLA battery with a capacity of 7 A / H. This is the battery recommended for Street 600. It is packaged in the “small” battery pack.
SLA12 : 36V SLA battery with a capacity of 12 A / H. This battery is recommended for Cross800. It is packaged in the “large” battery pack.
On the Teen150, the 24V 5A SLA / M battery is included in the skate.
LiFiPO4 batteries, which we call Lithium. The lithium battery technology is simply the most advanced technology, offering the best features.
The benefits are numerous:
- High power/weight ratio. Battery 36V – 12 A / H weighing 5.2kg.
- Long life service : approximately 500 cycles.
- Excellent performance: This technology perfectly withstands a continuous current, has a better acceleration, is faster (10-15%) and the battery lasts longer (15-20%)
- Highly recyclable and less polluting than SLA batteries. The only drawback is the price of the batterie, the LifiPo4 technology is very expensive.
Evo-Skate offers optional batteries :
Lithium 10 : 36V battery with a capacity of 10 A / H. This is the battery recommended for Street600. It is packaged in the”small” battery pack.
Lithium 12 : 36V battery with a capacity of 12 A / H. This is the recommended battery for the Cross800. It is packaged in the “small” battery pack..
Lithium 18 : 36V battery with a capacity of 18 A / H. This battery has a very large capacity, giving a range of over 40km to your Cross800. It is packaged in the “large” battery pack.
Comparing batteries
| Theoretical capacity* | Weight | Type of battery pack ** | |
| SLA 7 | 7 A/H | 9kg | “small“ |
| SLA 12 | 12 A/H | 14.5kg | “large“ |
| Lithium 10 | 10 A/H | 4.5kg | “small“ |
| Lithium 12 | 12 A/H | 5.2kg | “small“ |
| Lithium 18 | 20 A/H | 8.7kg | “large“ |
* Theoretical capacity: The theoretical capacity of a battery is measured according to an international standard with a slow discharge. For Evo motor-powered Skates the discharge is rapid and reduces the power and the life span of the battery, especially in the SLA. That’s the reason why even with the same capacity, an Evo-Skate mounted with a lithium battery will have a better acceleration, a sppeed improvent of 10-15% and its autonomy up by15-20% .
** Type of battery pack: There are two types of battery pack: the "small" and the “large”.
The Street 600 is designed to work with the “small” battery pack. It is possible to equip it with the “large” pack, but in that case the battery pack is only 2 cm from the ground, so use only on a perfectly smooth track.
The Cross 800 can operate with two types of battery packs.
Therefore we offer both the SLA and Li batteries. We have selected our suppliers for the quality and battery life span, according to rigorous testing. Even with the same theoretical qualities (same technology, same tension, same power), we have found differences between suppliers. We have chosen the best so that we can offer the best on the market, whatever your budget.
| Street600 | Cross800 | |
| SLA 7 | 18km – 25km/h | 15km – 30km/h |
| SLA 12 | 30km – 25km/h* | 25km – 30km/h |
| Lithium 10 | 30km – 30km/h | 25km – 35km/h |
| Lithium 12 | 36km – 30km/h | 33km – 35km/h |
| Lithium 18 | 60km – 30km/h* | 50km – 35km/h |
* BEWARE, in this case, it is a “large” battery pack on the Street 600, leaving only 2cm from the ground to the battery pack.
Autonomy announced is the maximum range, obtained in perfect conditions of use.
This is the maximum distance the skate can cover with a 70kg rider on a perfectly smooth surface, half speed, without acceleration or braking.
Distance shown is the distance at which the skate stops completely, knowing the final kilometers are covered at a slow speed.
In heavy use, with maximum acceleration, braking, elevation, and stop when the skateboard slows down, halve the real autonomy.
Battery charge:
Evo-Skate offers two chargers.
The standard charger of 1.5 A/H and the fast charger of 4A/H.
Below is a summary of charging times:
| Standard charger | Fast charger | |
| SLA 7 | 3h30 | 50min |
| SLA 12 | 5h | 1h30 |
| Lithium 10 | 4h30 | 1h15 |
| Lithium 12 | 5h | 1h30 |
| Lithium 18 | 9h | 2h30 |
Optimizing the life of your battery:
- Limit deep discharge (avoid using the skate until it comes to a halt).
- Avoid forcing the skate for a long time (or using it to climb a steep slope or with several riders aboard) because it then draws a high current from the battery, thus reducing their life span if repeated regularly.
- Always store your battery charged. The battery will discharge slowly, so when you store it, think about recharging it every other month, and before using your skate after a long period, recharge the battery fully.
- Avoid routine use of rapid charger. The high current load (8A) can damage the battery in the long run, especially on low-capacity batteries and/or SLA, and therefore we strongly advise you not to use it with SLA 7. We recommend using the quick charger in case of emergency only.
The above tips are only designed to maximize the life span of the battery. We advise you not to spoil your rides by thinking about the health of your battery, because even using it without following the tips above, your battery will gradually have a slightly reduced life span but will last long enough, and it is always possible to replace it at a cost which, divided by the number of sessions, is in the range of 1€ or 2€ …
